As someone that’s been a fan of using seaweed salt for a while now, when I heard from Doctor Seaweed about reviewing their range I was excited to try out some more products containing this amazing ingredient.
Seaweed has so many health benefits, and to give you an idea of what they are, here are some stats from Doctor Seaweed!
In just two Weed and Wonderful capsules…
- Iodine – As much as 3 whole mackerel.
- Potassium – As much as in 8 grams of banana.
- Calcium – As much as in 15 ml of milk.
- Iron – As much as in 30 grams of spinach.
In addition to this, the amount of iodine in these products contribute towards…
- Normal thyroid function.
- Maintenance of normal skin.
- Normal functioning nervous system
- & so much more!
Did you know that 66% of women have a diet insufficient in iodine, and 76% of school-ages girls suffer from an iodine deficiency? To me, that is utterly shocking. The amount of iodine in my diet is really not something I have even thought of as an issue, so implementing these seaweed products into my diet seems like a simple fix, and something I am keen to stay on top of!
What did I think of Doctor Seaweed’s Seaweed Infused Oils?
I was kindly sent the two different types of Seaweed Infused Oil – Pure and Smoked.
I started out using the Pure Scottish Seaweed Oil in recipes for dishes including roasted or stir fry vegetables which works so well. It adds a great flavour to the dish overall and knowing it has health benefits along with tasting delicious is just fantastic.
I decided to try out the Smoked Seaweed Infused Oil in different ways, such as for marinating tofu and drizzling over chickpeas before baking, and it tasted absolutely gorgeous! Of all of the products, this one I will definitely be repurchasing. I use this at least once a week in different dishes as it is so delicious.
For adding to tofu or chickpeas, I would really recommend pairing this oil with paprika (smoked or sweet), turmeric and black pepper – the combination of flavours is amazing and it is so versatile so it can be served up within different dishes.
Intense Smoked Seaweed Oil
So the name of this one got me – I really wasn’t sure if it was going to be too overpowering and I was slightly nervous to use it.
Packaged up in a cute little bottle, this oil does pack a punch, but in a good way! I wouldn’t use this for marinating my tofu as I think the flavour would be too strong, but I’ve tried using it in different ways such as adding into a homemade hummus for something a little different, putting a few drops into a tahini and lemon salad dressing and putting into soup, all of which were fantastic!
Overall, I am loving the products from Doctor Seaweed’s, and I’m actually annoyed that I haven’t tried them sooner! They are definitely products I am going to repurchase and continue using in the future – I actually can’t imagine cooking without them now!
More Recipe Ideas – How To Use Seaweed Oil
From drizzling over home-grown courgettes and pan frying to marinating my tofu, I have been using this range of seaweed oil from Doctor Seaweed’s obsessively over the last few months.
If you are looking for an easy dinner dish, I’ve found using the Smoked Seaweed Oil fantastic for adding extra flavour to patatas bravas. Cooking the potatoes in this delicious oil not only adds a smokey flavour that works so well with the paprika in the tomatoes, it also makes them amazingly crispy, the perfect texture for this dish!
Sometimes all you have in the fridge is leftovers, and I find the best way to use them up is to make quesadillas. I’ve also used both the Pure Seaweed Oil and Smoked Seaweed Oil for crisping up my tortilla’s and both work so well. The Smoked obviously adds flavour to the dish, but if you are looking for something more subtle that won’t take away from the flavour of the filling, the Pure is your go-to.
I would really recommend trying out the range from Doctor Seaweed and if you do, be sure to let me know what you thought of it!
