A few weeks back I was strolling along Lymington High Street looking at different bits on the market like gingerNut, freshly baked bread and second hand goods, amongst other stuff. Then I came across Chef Bernie’s stand.
“Chef Bernie makes award winning vegan and gluten free sauces at ‘Sauce Central’ an 1100 sq ft unit in Bevois Valley, Southampton. Sauces span mild to very hot in the ‘Condiment Range’, with cooking sauces in the ‘Tropical Range’ free from added sugar, in mild medium and hot. With a belief that all food is better as natural as possible, only the best ingredients are used with some organic and definitely no thickeners or fillers to bulk up the sauces.“
A perfectly set up stall with awesome packaging on the products and squeezy bottles for tasters, I was pulled in straight away.
The man himself was super friendly, asking how spicy I like my sauces. I was kind of worried, sometimes I’m all good, sometimes the spice gets to me! (I survived, FYI)
I was so spoilt for choice but decided to purchase the Tropical Garlic Sauce and the Sweet Pepper & Mustard Sauce. I also wanted to purchase the Tropical Curry Coconut Sauce but unfortunately I was too late and it was sold out. This one was SO yummy, I will definitely be purchasing soon to make delicious curries with it.
Sweet Pepper & Mustard Sauce – £5.50
This sauce was described as having a piccalilli-esque taste and it was very close. It’s got an absolutely amazing flavour, like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. It’s like piccalilli on steroids, SO flavoursome! The mustard is delicious, I can imagine slathering this on everything and anything.
Ingredients: Yellow Bell Peppers, (min 53%) White Wine Vinegar, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Mineral Water, Demerara Sugar, Mustard Powder, (min 2.2%) Fresh Basil, Fresh Sage, Scotch Bonnet Peppers, Turmeric, Organic Sea Salt.
Additional Notes: Vegan, gluten free, no added thickeners
Tropical Garlic Sauce – £5.50
Powerful, phenomenal flavour. I was told to mix this one with some butter to make an amazing garlic bread which I thought sounded like absolute perfection. I think this would be great chucked on top of veggies and rice – I can’t wait to start cooking with this!
Ingredients: Mineral Water, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Red Onion, Sunflower Oil, Cyder Vinegar, Fresh Garlic (min 7%), Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice, Scotch Bonnet Peppers (min 2.2%), Fresh Coriander Leaves, Organic Sea Salt.
Additional Notes: Vegan, gluten free, no added thickeners, no added sugar
